CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Neighborhood summer swim rivals Chappaqua Swim & Tennis and Birchwood Swim & Tennis battled it out in the pool with Chappaqua Swim edging Birchwood 271-258 in a Northern Westchester Division 1 Swimming Conference meet July 17.

Chappaqua remained unbeaten at 4-0, while Birchwood has won two meets and lost just once.

"Chappaqua's depth was the difference and helped overcome five triple winners, four double winners, and a greater number of first place finishes by Birchwood," CST Head Coach Dan Levy reported.

With the score tied after diving at 20-20, Birchwood began to pull ahead and held a 67-60 lead after backstroke with 8 out of 10 first place finishes. Chappaqua then took 8 of 10 races in breaststroke, including three which were first and second CST finishes to pull ahead 136-118.

Birchwood closed the gap slightly after butterfly by taking 7 of 10 races, but Chappaqua maintained most of its lead by taking many second and third places in the races Birchwood won. After the fly, Chappaqua was up 189-174. The gap was closed a bit more after the freestyle as Birchwood again took 7 of 10 races. CST was up 243-230 heading into the relays. The teams split the points in the four relays to keep the final margin at 13 in favor of Chappaqua.

In the 18-Under girls 100 meter breaststroke, Isabella Weiner broke the team record by swimming a 1:19.98. The previous record of 1:20.13 was held by Zoe Kerrich and was set on July 30, 2012.

Triple winners for Birchwood included: Kristen Cornish (10-Under girls back, fly, free), Noelle Kaufman (12 girls back, fly, free), Cate Sawkins (14-Under girls back, breaststroke, free), Tyler Hill (14-Under boys back, fly, free), and Garrett Kaufman (18-Under boys back, fly, free).

Double winners for Chappaqua included: Kiara Cekic (8-Under girls backstroke and fly), Finn Franks (8-Under boys back and breaststroke), Adam Nack (10-Under boys breaststroke and free), and Isabella Weiner (18-Under girls breaststroke and free).

Double winners for Birchwood were: Gwen Schuiltiss (13-Under and 18-Under girls diving), Eric Nadeki (8-Under boys breaststroke, free), Garrett Kiesel (12-Under boys back, free), and Emma Hadley (18-Under girls back, fly).
