"It has long been a fact that the United States is not graduating enough engineers to be sufficiently competitive in the global economy," said WCA President Marissa Brett.

"Our partnership with the WCA continues to grow as a powerful force for the good of Westchester County, as it focuses on the economic driving forces of health care, technology, business accelerators and now biomedical engineering," said Ray Manganelli, executive director for Mercy College's Strategic Consulting Institute. "The WCA and the SCI are perfect partners for innovation and growth in Westchester County."

For the study's first step, SCI examined existing engineering schools with a focus on biomedical engineering. A special committee was formed to guide the WCA and participate in the process. Up to 12 schools were in consideration.
