CSF Funds Help Plan Learning Center At Greeley

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – A “state-of-the-art” learning commons may be coming to Horace Greeley High School courtesy of the Chappaqua School Foundation.

CSF President Allison Wintner presented the Chappaqua Central School District Board of Education with a check for $83,000 on Aug. 8 to prepare a feasibility study and concept design for reconfiguring Buildings G and H at Greeley.

Building G contains the art rooms (6,822 square-feet) while Building H houses the library (10,609 square-feet) and cafeteria (4,474 square-feet). The concept is to break down the barriers and open up the space to create an approximately 22,000 square-foot facility that is modern, student-centered, adaptive, interactive, and technology-driven.

“It is truly the right idea at the right time,” Wintner said. “It has the potential for innovative educational concepts and architectural design to not just enhance Chappaqua’s reputation as one of the top public districts, to make our school be a model of how public high schools can continue to evolve to help prepare students for the next stages of their lives.”

In CSF’s 19-year history, the non-profit organization has funded almost 200 grants for all grade levels at all six Chappaqua schools. This year, the organization wanted to fund more “forward-thinking” grants, Wintner said.

“The community was particularly interested in CSF funding longer-term, high-impact grants, with broad and central educational value that the district could never fund on its own,” she said.

Wintner said with digital and visual literacy becoming more prevalent, it is also becoming more of a challenge to reach and engage students in a traditional classroom setting. School Board President Victoria Tipp thanked CSF and said the grant will help keep Greeley in line with the times despite facing fiscal challenges.

“It sounds like this project is a way to keep maximizing our potential for the future and take advantage of educational, technological advancements,” Tipp said.
