Officers patrolling a shopping center on Friday night spotted a Nissan that was left running unattended and was parked in the fire zone of a store.
When the driver of the vehicle left the store, the responding officers advised him that he was to be issued summonses for leaving an unattended vehicle and a parking summons for leaving the car in the fire zone.
According to police, after refusing to comply with directions, the 58-year-old Spring Valley resident got into his car, put it in gear and began to drive away. Officers were able to quickly stop the driver and he was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and obstructing governmental administration.
After being processed, the driver was released on bail and is due back in Ramapo Justice Court next month.
Police did not release the man's name.
