An officer conducting drug and alcohol enforcement with the BESTADE (Bronxville Eastchester Scarsdale Tuckahoe Alcohol Enforcement) Task Force at approximately 9;30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 stopped White Plains resident Jonathan Villegas on Post Road near the intersection of Huntington Road.

Police said that prior to the stop, while traveling behind Villegas’ BMW, the officer could smell a strong scent of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and a large amount of smoke could be seen emanating from the driver’s side window.

According to police, BESTADE is a multi-jurisdictional Task Force comprised of police officers from the Town of Eastchester, and the Villages of Bronxville, Scarsdale and Tuckahoe is focused on the battle against illegal drugs and underage drinking enforcement.

During the traffic stop, the officer reported that there was still a large amount of smoke exiting the vehicle, and the smell of marijuana lingered. While speaking with Villegas, he handed a small plastic bag of marijuana to the officer, leading to his arrest.

Villegas was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. After being processed at Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Villegas was released and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court at a later date to respond to the charge.
