In May, a behind-the-scenes initiative taken by residents and merchants to strengthen the local business district was officially revealed as the Chappaqua-Millwood Chamber of Commerce.
The group held its first meeting in June and invited nearly 300 local restaurant owners, merchants and other professionals to sign up.
While not all businesses attended, nearly 50 representatives packed New Castle Town Hall to join the chamber and hear from its temporary board members Tara Mikolay, Robin Murphy, Rich Glotzer, Linda Degelsmith, and Rob Greenstein.
In just six months, the group added 147 members and looked to create some longstanding traditions with the first annual Fall Festival on Oct. 13.
Hundreds of residents crowded the streets and sidewalks of downtown Chappaqua to buy pumpkins and mums, get their faces painted, enjoy the petting zoo, climb aboard a fire engine, listen to music, buy jewelry, sip hot apple cider and eat cotton candy, sausages and cupcakes. The festival even attracted Chappaqua's most notable resident, President Bill Clinton.
The chamber also introduced a holiday stroll and a Third Thursdays event to bring more foot traffic into downtown Chappaqua.
