Ossining Music School Owner Mike Risko Addresses Audience At Namm Show

OSSINING, N.Y. -- Ossining music school owner Mike Risko recently spoke to an audience of hundreds of peers at the 2016 National Association of Music Merchants show in Anaheim, Calif., which designated his store as a "Top 100 Music Retailer" in the world for the second time and as top three in their "Music Makes a Difference" category.

As part of the presentation, Risko shared tactics for creating an inviting environment inside and outside of a music school business; offering exciting programs beyond music lessons; and having a top notch staff. He also spoke about the "Mike Risko Music School" guitar curriculum, a 4-book series that he wrote in 2003, and which has been successfully used at the store and adopted by other programs in the area.

“It was so exciting to be able to share these best practices with our peers -- I really stressed the importance of having a passion for what you do while growing your business,” said Risko.

Mike and his business-partner/wife Miriam Risko, started the music lesson business in 1995, and the music retail store, in 2009. They are in the process of writing a book for small business owners on how to engage their customers.

“We hope our best practices can guide other small business owners to better engage with their customers and their community to grow successful businesses,” said Risko. “We’ve used these practices to help our music students get the most out of their music lessons and become successful music students and musicians.”
