CHAPPAQUA, N.Y.--Did you know that there is a motion picture of Chappaqua? The 1966 cult film entitled Chappaqua , is directed, produced and starring Conrad Rooks. The film Chappaqua is based on Rooks' experiences with drug addiction. In this semi-autobiographical tale, Rooks travels to France to enter a drug-withdrawal cure while flashing back to psychedelic San Francisco, California.
The film depicts Chappaqua, New York as a sleepy hamlet in Westchester, with a few minutes of wintry panoramas. The quiet, peaceful setting symbolized drug-free, suburban, childhood innocence.
Chappaqua was filmed mostly at the Chappaqua Indian Reservation, as well as New York City and Paris, France.
