The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) has suspended the alcohol license of Mozza Restaurant in Mount Vernon, following a full meeting of its board.

As of Wednesday, Oct.10, no alcohol is permitted to be sold or consumed on the premises. Officials are expected to seek a permanent revocation of the license during the suspension.

According to the SLA, Mozza has been slapped with five violations of Alcohol Beverage Control laws. They also cited a series of robberies, shootings, stabbings and other violent incidents at the restaurant for seeking a revocation of the license.

The latest incident came last week, on Oct. 4, when someone was shot at approximately 2:30 a.m. outside the bar. The man was taken to the Westchester Medical Center and treated for a gunshot wound to the head. There have also been several reports of disorderly crowds in the past year that required police intervention.

There have been 70 directed patrols and nearly 50 emergency 911 calls for fights and disorderly crowds. Since December last year, the Mount Vernon Police have referred five violent incidents stemming from Mozza Restaurant.

"The licensee has taken no actions to stem the violent incidents and rampant disorder that are occurring at this restaurant on a regular basis,” SLA counsel Christopher Riano said in a statement. "The complete failure to supervise is a danger to both patrons and to the community, and I applaud the Authority for shutting down this establishment.”
