Local, the newest establishment on Chappaqua's Greeley Avenue sets itself apart from other restaurants by sticking to its name, only selecting and purchasing the finest and freshest local ingredients for its dishes.
Adam Strahl, the owner of the villages newest ice cream shop, is a musician by trade but as always had an interest in food.
Im very into healthy food, organic foods, local foods, Strahl said. Its the most sensible way to eat.
Strahl got his idea from working at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantino Hills, NY, a local organic farm and restaurant. He saw the interest in local and handmade foods throughout the Hudson Valley and want to take that to Chappaqua.
The local food is more than my business, its my ideology, Strahl said. We want this place to be accessible and fun so we can provide for kids and their parents.
Local offers more than ice cream as well. They offer salads, sandwiches, soups, veggie chili, organic hot dogs, organic coffee and tea. The place is a locavore's delight.
Milk and ice cream comes from Ronnybrook Farms in Ancramdale, New York and baked goods are shipped up from Balthazar Bakery in New York City.
This place, its from the heart, Strahl said. I love this town and I love the people here.
Local is Strahls first venture into small business and countless years in the food industry. Strahl comes from the upper west side in Manhattan and has lived in Chappaqua for nine years.
Local is open seven days a week and open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the weekends.
