NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -Town Administrator Penny Paderewski told residents recently that costs from the pre-Halloween snowstorm have nearly doubled the damage suffered from Tropical Storm Irene.
Overtime granted to the Department of Public Works for Irene was about $20,000, while the snowstorm cost New Castle approximately $50,000 in overtime. She also said that tree removal for Irene was $65,000, while the snowstorm, to date, has cost more than $100,000. The town is still in the process of tree and debris cleanup.
According to Paderewski, New Castle has applied for FEMA assistance for Tropical Storm Irene, but says no support has yet been made available.
"This is clearly going to affect our budget if there is none coming," said Paderewski.
The town has also compiled an estimate of the storm costs with the Westchester County Office of Emergency Management in hopes it will receive some relief for the snowstorm.
