Chappaqua Residents Prepare for October Snowfall

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Are you ready for a white Halloween? A Winter Storm Watch was posted for Westchester County for Saturday, leaving Chappaqua residents and business owners trying to prepare for the unusual fall weather.

“We have shovels downstairs we’ll bring up. We have all our snow melts in the basement that we’ll bring up,” said Lucy Cutri of the Millwood Garden Center. “We’re good.”

Forecasters predict a mixture of light, wet snow and rain beginning early Saturday before changing to all snow by late Saturday afternoon. Snow could be moderate to heavy at times before ending Saturday night, according to officials. Accumultation between four and eight inches is possible.

“My lawn is still covered in leaves and now I have to deal with snow?" said Mike Steinberg. “That’s crazy."

In preparation of the storm, the Chappaqua Paint & Hardware store on South Greeley Avenue was selling ice melt.

Authorities are warning of possible hazardous travel conditions or power outages due to falling tree limbs from the heavy and wet snow, but Cutri is not panicking.

“Plows are ready, we’re ready,” she said.
