I wonder how many people realize that the Andio Cuomo 2% tax cap somehow calculates to 4.6% this year. And we are only in year two. Someone should ask Valhalla how much they have paid recently in legal settlements. It is huge, starting with the $1.1 million Westhelp Fiasco, but there are others. None of which has ever been disclosed to the taxpayers. View Comment
Reporting on Westhelp Fiasco should always include some reference to Rob Astorino's mouthpiece Ned McCormack who ran the illegal "Westhelp Partnership" scam and to County Legislator Mike Smith whose actions on the Valhalla School board cost district taxpayers $1.1 million and untold legal fees. Both live in the area adjacent to the Westhelp property. Both profited from the scam, both oppose homeless or affordable housing going in there. View Comment
what, exactly is the purpose of a "poll" as to who will win a game that will be decided without regard to the will or whimsy of anyone polled? If you want to know the sentiment of the people look at the point spread. The "Pollsters" in Vegas and the underworld are regular Zogbys. View Comment
There has only been one Foil request for this information in the past year. The Foil request was made almost a year ago. There is no indication on the request relating it to the Journal News. A Michael Sheehan on New Rochelle NY made the request. So far I can't find a connection between him and the Journal News. But it does bring up several questions. Was the Journal News sitting on this for the right opportunity? How long did it take to plot the interactive map? Were they hoping for a tragedy closer to home? Aurora seems to far away, but Sandy Hook is in their backyard. Knowing that the data is a year old, how many unrelated people have they put in harms way? People that may be at those addresses, that were not there a year ago. I have dealt with these socialist editors for 12 years. They are the scum you might think, but in reality they are not too bright useful idiots with knee jerk liberal tendencies and an overbearing sense of their own importance.

Good pick on the top story, only the school district still has not notified the taxpayers. You should have included the fact that county legislator Mike Smith and Rob Astorino's right hand man, Ned McCormack were instrumental in the illegal scam and that a handful of taxpayers acted against the scheme. Considering the fact that the neighboring Valhalla school district was offered the same contaminated fill by by the same illegal carter, ran the deal by the County Department of Health, was advised to turn it down and did. Briarcliff knew or should have known to do the same. But in the world of government education it is all about the money, the control and making compliant servants of the state. Don't expect anyone in government education to be held accountable, they never are. www.valhallavoice.com View Comment
The Town of Mt Pleasant response has been horrible. In Greenburgh, intersections with no trafic lights are lit by auxilliary lighting with stop signs. Valhalla train station passengers cross the Bronx River Parkway in complete darkness. The broken walkway from the station to light is unlit. Not sure where the police are, but no one is directing traffic at busy intersections with no traffic lights. Town trees allowed to grow way beyond safe heights still sit on houses where they fell on Monday night. But Town priorities are not essential services, not safety and in no way involve communicating information to residents. View Comment
Waking up to find out, denials aside, Bloomberg diverting resources from outer boroughs and Westchester for the NYC Marathon broadcast on Obama mouthpiece NBC. Mt Pleasant Town trees still sit on houses 5 days after the storm. Out of town contractors can't believe that we have such hugh trees in residential areas just waiting to fall every year. But we have our priorities, recreation, events at the international terror target and family fun park, town pools. Myopic one party towns, little fiefdoms of Bloomberg wannabes. View Comment
Con ed is a government sanctioned monopoly that can't service its service area. I agree with others here that there is no evidence that any work is being done in Mt Pleasant. There are trucks clearing roadside debris, leaves and chipping branches, while huge trees (that the town should have removed long ago) sit on wires and houses through out the town. Meanwhile we are told that government buildings and schools are a priority. The taxpayers who pay their own bills and who pay the government bills too should come first. View Comment
So when is the school district going to tell the taxpayers how they lost the lawsuit they, the BOE initiated against the town of Greenburgh and that the taxpayers will now have to $1.1 million to bail out the illegal dealing of the school board and the Mayfair Knollwood Civic association. Public "educators" acting like corporate CEO's making deals with mob carters, killing kids and now still in charge of fixing problems they caused and no one is ever held accountable. No one is ever prosecuted. All these fill deals were illegal. In Briarcliff, Valhalla, Eastchester and Greenburgh. Try that in the private sector and you would be in jail and you should be.
Valhalla originally turned this Whitney trucking deal down in 1997 because the superintendent checked with the attorneys and the board of health. Considering the closed boys club of attorneys in the county what are the chances that Briarcliff and Valhalla had the same attorney? Do you think the DOH might have alerted districts this deal was dirty? But then again post 911 Valhalla turned around and accepted 90,000 cubic yards of PAH loaded fill from who knows where? Hmmm where were carters pulling fill from in the spring of 2002? Unfortunately in NY state there is no controlling legal authority overseeing what these school boards and administrators do. Valhalla being the poster child for illegal and embarrassing behavior. www.valhallavoice.com View Comment
I appreciate the opportunity to have an opninion piece in the online Daily Voices. However I will point out that the line
"As chairman of Greenburgh’s Valhalla Schools Committee, Mr. McCormack had a lot of authority" was an editor's rewrite
What I wrote was :
"As chairman of Greenburgh’s Valhalla Schools Committee, Mr. McCormack had more authority than any school board member or district employee, creating positions on Valhalla’s payroll, hiring employees, and purchasing goods and services."
Because that is true. Just for the record View Comment
Finally this is getting the attention it deserves. School districts in NY state are entirely unaccountable for their actions unless they are caught in the act of having sex with or, as in this case killing kids. I have been documenting multiple illegal activities for 13 years, including a similar fill for fields deal chock full of PAH's in the edge of a reservoir and have only been able to get the state comptroller to audit the district. Law enforcement is not interested in tangling with benefactors of the teacher's union. www.valhallavoice.com BTW Valhalla was first offered the Whitney trucking deal that Briarcliff accepted, fortunately we had an old school adult superintendent at the time. We were not so blessed in 2002 when Dr Tom Kelly accepted 90,000 cubic yards of fill without so much as a contract, certificate of insurance or any documentation. Draw a map, where do you think that stuff was coming from, post 9/11 Albany? or lower Manhattan? View Comment
Another unfair aspect of this fiasco is that :
A: the Valhalla School Committee that controlled the $1.8 million was a committe of the town of Greenburgh. So technically the funds never left control of the town.
B. Repayment of the $1.1 million will $888,000 will be paid by taxpayers who live in Mt Pleasant and North Castle who had no control of the funds. only $220,000 will be repaid by the taxpayers of Greenburgh and only a portion of that by residents of Mayfair Knollwood who had absolute control of the funds through the make up of the "Valhalla School Committee"
C. Somehow no one is asking the people who directly benefitted to pay back the stolen funds. Where are the records of who participated in these boondogles? We know Mike Smith had his daughter's private school expense paid, maybe we can start by him writing the first check.

The Renegades are not a Little League team, bad job reporting. Compliance with a Little League charter is hard work, involves dozens of volunteers hundreds of hours a year and provides the a program for hundreds of kids from ages 4 through 18. Learn the difference or don't report it. View Comment
Nice optic, fundraising on the Rockefeller estate and posing with the family dog, Dinner. Oh, I mean Bo. Perhaps she will have time to visit the other Mt. Pleasant attraction, International Terror Target and Family Fun Park, Kensico Dam Plaza.
