Before the town spends 40$ mil, perhaps they should fix sidewalks, install a generator at the HS, and maybe hire an independent planner. Seems that the plan proposed would totally disrupt life in the hamlet for way too long, impact on current business and pretty much scare people away due to the inconvenience. Remember how long it took to do the bridge? The town is quaint now. I think the current business owners and new ones if given incentives can provide a good mix of services. Chipotle? Petco? Isn't a Staples in Mount Kisco. -- Having these stores in such a beautiful location as Readers Digest is a sin. The Board's reaction is finally a sign that the leader's of Chappaqua are thinking rationally. Finally common sense and reason is getting a voice. Chappaqua is not "underserved." I think the best thing for Chappaqua would be to take a deep breath, take one year and start creating a master plan for the town. Consider all options, and make sure that it considers traffic/safety and economic impact on the downtown merchants and residential property owners . While Mr. Napoli has an interesting vision, whatever is done should come from a Master Plan. The main intersection of town is crowded enough. The traffic on 117 and reader's digest road is crowded enough. I know the appeal of Chappaqua is the quaintness and small town feel. Target is not far away as is other strip malls. Let's keep Chappaqua feeling like Chappaqua. Let's fix the sidewalks we have. Honestly, no one is starving from not have a supermarket. But to make Chappaqua seem like Bedford Hills is a mistake. And to make the downtown more congested is also a mistake. View Comment
Perhaps a "real" vote should be taken -- a special election on this issue. It is a big enough traffic/saftey/quality of life issue, People living on the other side of the Saw Mill are mistaken to think that traffic will be contained to 117. It will overflow onto Exit 33 and also be a problem for the HS. View Comment
The picture above is totally useless-- and really insults our intelligence. Of course there won't be any changes from the "west." Since the planning board is no longer lead agency, does their opinion carry any weight at all? The Town Board will do what it wants to do, it certainly could put out a vote - a poll on a site like poll daddy.com - if it wanted to really gauge how the residents feel about it. Perhaps two questions should be asked. 1. Do we want Chappaqua Crossing rezoned for retail? 2. Do we want the town to conduct a full master plan, considering how to have a supermarket in the downtown area? Perhaps other questions. It won't take long to do and will prove to the town that the board is acting in the best interests of the residents and NOT Summit Greenfield. View Comment
The location is definitely better than the previous plan. Better integrated into the town, less traffic problems. It's just an ugly building. I can't believe there isn't a better design-- more in line with the colonial quaint look of the town -- like the King St. Condos. View Comment
I too want a supermarket in Chappaqua, but downtown, not in the middle of a residential community, near the HS, and certainly not if it requires a rezoning giving Summit Greenfield the right to put any commercial or retail establishment on the property. Go to http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-supermarket and sign a petition to stop a supermarket at the Reader's Digest/ Chappaqua Crossing property. We can find another way! And in the meantime go to the A&P and local merchants. View Comment
The Readers Digest Location is the wrong place for a supermarket. Clearly the D'Agostino spot was the place for a Chappaqua Supermarket. Readers Digest Road has a great deal of traffic due to the HS and the Saw Mill Exit. And 117 cannot handle the traffic that would be on a non stop continual basis for a supermarket. I am totally opposed to a supermarket going into Readers Digest. View Comment
