That's not a fair comparison. The way I look at it, they're still operating with many local sites, while Patch (with much deeper pockets due to being owned by AOL) is not. So it is an accomplishment. View Comment
They probably posted it for the Greenland Daily Voice, and their stupid system that copies it to all towns just did its thing. My title says Yorktown.
And yes, I know we're nowhere near Greenland, before someone asks. There's probably not even a DV in Greenland. And I noticed that they didn't even link to t he correct article on the DailySky site. Typical for DV. View Comment
And I gave up on Daily Voice emails when they kept sending "breaking news" cr*p that wasn't important and had no relevance to my area (even though it's supposed to be a local site), and with subject lines that were so truncated that I had to open the email to tell what they were talking about.
Think of how much more successful this site could be if it actually were usable. Stuff like not showing days (or weeks) old articles about upcoming weather, looking like they're still current View Comment
So you're saying that the people who didn't know that there was an election read Daily Voice and Patch and would have noticed because of that? I would argue that the people who read these sites are the ones who already knew that there was an election.
I'm a bit sorry that Brackett lost because it would have been good to have some new blood in there, although I don't know that I agreed with her opinions (but kudos to her for going after the JV Mall about their inaction). On the other hand, I am glad that Vishnu's vote will not be nearly as important anymore, so he can go back to mumbling and no one can care (like it used to be), and we won't have to be embarrassed by his actions. And those of us who like what Michael Grace is doing won't have to worry about him being obstructed the way he has been the past few months. View Comment
Everyone who has a phone number that supports it (which is basically Optimum and FiOS customers) should sign up for Nomorobo.com. It is a free service (of which I have no relationship other than being a happy customer) and blocks calls from known telemarketers by picking up on the first ring and hanging up. I'm not sure if the numbers these scammers are calling from are part of their database, but if they are, these calls would never get thru to the attempted victims. View Comment
This article is a perfect example of how a poorly worded title and poor implementation of the Popular section on the top right of the page can lead to confusion. This article is several days old and no longer relevant. Yet it's the #1 article n the Popular section (of which 4 of the 5 are weather, so we know that 3 are old) and people will click on it thinking that it's current. You folks at Daily Voice need to do something so articles like this stop showing up in the Popular list when they're expired -- and ALWAYS put the actual day in the title so it's at least obvious that it's not current. Perhaps you're also using too long a period to determine if an article is popular and it should only be a day or two. View Comment
This is one of those terrible articles they post where it's the same for all towns but they change the name in the title (my article says Yorktown). Really annoying. At least in my case, there are actually two Yorktown restaurants listed. View Comment
While the JV Mall renovations were approved surprisingly quickly, I wouldn't point to it as a success given that there hasn't been any action to actually start the work. And the Costco approval process has been a textbook example of why companies would NOT want to even consider coming to Yorktown. I give them credit for sticking it out but other companies would likely have gone to plan B a long time ago. View Comment
