As an RN, mother and health conscious individual, I ask...Is it lawful to medicate people for a non-contagious disease without their consent? People who do not want to drink fluoride then need to buy and maintain expensive water filters. Is this fair? I began looking into the fluoride issue, again, a few years ago when my daughter had skin issues, at a friend's suggestion, we were at a loss. She discontinued fluoride toothpaste and began buying spring water at great expense and inconvenience. Her skin improved dramatically. Ok,, now we are stuck with buying spring water in plastic(non eco) bottles or buying, installing and maintaining a reverse osmosis water filter. I ask again, is this fair?
If people like fluoride, they are certainly welcome to purchase it in the form of toothpaste. I would also think that in light of budgetary challenges, discontinuing fluoride is a win/win proposition. It would be helpful to know what the city budget is for fluoridation. That money may be better spent in other areas of Yorktown.
I am sure that the technicians/engineers who add fluoride to the Yorktown water system will tell you that fluoride is a hazardous chemical and even diluted, who would want to drink it? One does not need to be a scientist or a "crazy anti-fluoride" nut to come to that conclusion. If one is a questioning person who likes to save money, say NO to fluoridation.
Thanks!
