MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck High School's Hope and Courage Crawford are New York State tennis champions.

The Crawford brothers, who moved to Mamaroneck from Georgia earlier this school year, won the State doubles championship on Saturday by a score of 7-5, 6-3 over Cold Spring Harbor. The State Championships took place at the USTA Billy Jean National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

Hope Crawford is a sophomore at Mamaroneck High School and Courage is a freshman. The Crawfords defeated another pair of Westchester brothers, Jeremy and James Wei of Horace Greeley, in three sets on May 21 in Harrison to win the Section 1 tennis doubles championship. Both "brothers' doubles" teams advanced to States. However, Greeley's Wei brothers were eliminated by Cold Spring Harbor's doubles team in a State semifinals match on Friday.

MHS junior Shari Rauls, meanwhile, qualified for the Track and Field State championship in the 800-meter run. Rauls was the fastest 800-meter runner in Westchester County, recording the eighth fastest time in New York state this spring. She placed second at States last year in the 800-meter race. This year's State championships are June 12 at SUNY Albany.

The Mamaroneck boys' varsity lacrosse team ended up on the losing end of its Class A regional playoff, falling 16-13 to Section 2's Niskayuna at Lakeland High School. Mamaroneck's Eric Greenberg scored four goals and MHS senior Reed Malas added three in the State quarterfinal game. However, the Tigers could not recover from a five-goal deficit at the end of the first half.

To get to States, the Tigers' lacrosse team won its third Section 1 championship in the past four years by toppling Mahopac,12-11, as reported by Daily Voice last week. Greenberg scored the winning goal in overtime, earning "most valuable player" on offense. Malas, meanwhile, was named All-America by the Hudson Valley Coaches Association.

Mamaroneck's second-seeded varsity baseball team topped defending champion Roy C. Ketcham on Saturday evening for its first Section 1 title since 2009, advancing to the State quarterfinal playoff on Friday. Read more about the 8-6 win here.
