Horace Greeley, Nyack Square Off at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- Horace Greeley and Nyack will battle it out Friday at 7 p.m. at Purchase College in the game of the night. Both teams come in with 2-0 records and high-scoring offenses.

The Quakers have amassed 91 points in two games, including 35 last week against Sleepy Hollow. Horace Greeley showed last week that it can hurt a defense running or passing.

The Quakers ground out 342 yards rushing, led by quarterback Justin Ciero’s game-high 178. When Sleepy Hollow’s defense committed to the run, Ciero hit the Headless Horsemen with short passes that Cory Ekstrom transformed into long-gainers. The Quakers have an advantage in the kicking game with Jackson Weisman. The senior has converted all 14 extra points and the left-footed kicker consistently sends his kick-offs inside the opponent’s 10-yard-line.

Nyack defeated Spring Valley, 27-13, last week, and has played well for rookie coach Mike Ramponi.
