Harrison Football Focused On Horace Greeley

HARRISON, N.Y. -- It could be easy for Harrison to fall into the trap of not focusing on Horace Greeley Friday and, instead, looking ahead to the annual game with archrival Rye on October 20.

The Huskies, who are 5-0, have Rye on their collective minds from the first day of practice annually. However, Harrison does not want to stumble against the 0-5 Quakers at 7 p.m. Friday.

Harrison has clinched a berth in the Section 1 Class A football championships, however, the Huskies and undefeated Somers are vying for the No. 1 seed.

“We’ve stressed about Rye too early in the past and it has backfired on us,” quarterback and senior captain Vinnie Nicita said. “We are focusing on our opponent week to week and will focus on Rye when the time comes.”

Harrison’s offense continued rolling last week in a 42-7 thumping of Pearl River. It was the second consecutive game Harrison scored more than 40 points.

On the other hand, since scoring 24 points in its season-opener to Brewster, Greeley has managed just 16 points in its last four games.

"We know anyone can beat anyone on any given day and we don't want to let overconfidence ruin our season," Nicita said.
