The Greeley ice hockey team earned victories Thursday and Friday over Fox Lane and Byram Hills respectively and moved into the last part of the regular season schedule before the postseason playoffs begin in early February.
The Quakers skated to a 3-1 victory over Fox Lane at the Brewster Ice Arena Thursday night, holding the Foxes to just 14 shots on goal while they were able to put 35 shots on the Fox Lane goaltender. Blake Davis led the team with two goals and the defense continued its outstanding play.
The defense, led by Owen Gatto, Greg Krisberg, Henry Girardi and Dean Klien, as well as a group of strong back-checking forwards, have kept opposing players and pucks away from goaltender Neil Hershman. The Quakers hope to generate more offense as the playoffs near.
Greeley continued its ability to control play against weaker teams with a 7-2 victory over Byram Hills on Friday night. Greg Krisberg notched a hat trick (three goals) and Noah Ives and Jake Sandor also hit the net for Greeley. Owen Gatto created many opportunities for his teammates, gathering three assists.Greeley will take a break this coming week and return to the ice on Feb. 3 in a rematch at Sport-O-Rama in Monsey (Rockland) against Pearl River. The Pirates defeated Greeley 3-2 earlier in the season. The Quakers then face Shepaug at Brewster at 6:10 p.m. on Feb. 4.Greeley needs to win its games against Pear River and Ryetown/Harrison to nail down a high seed for the upcoming playoffs.
