Greeley Ice Hockey Falls to Mount Pleasant

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Greeley ice hockey team completed a week of games with a 3-2 loss to Mount Pleasant Sunday, losing three of its five games during the stretch.

The Quakers lost the first of the five games in a tough battle with Pearl River at the Brewster Ice Arena last Tuesday. Greeley gave up the first goal of the game until Nick Girardi and Sam Mishkind found the back of the net a few minutes apart to give Greeley a 2-1 lead.

Pearl River scored the tying goal halfway through the third period and scored again with less than two minutes remaining to pull out the 3-2 win, handing the Quakers their third loss against 6 wins.

The Quakers followed with a 7-1 loss to unbeaten Rye, the fifth-ranked team in New York State Division 2 schools. Rye out-skated Greeley to start the game but the Quakers rallied and a goal by Sam Spar put Greeley up 1-0 after the first period. The Garnets responded with seven straight goals to skate past the Quakers.

Greeley followed the Rye loss with an easy 4-3 victory over Newburgh Free Academy Thursday, controlling the play of the game throughout.  The busy week ended with Greeley losing to Mount Pleasant 3-2 with 10 seconds remaining in overtime. Despite pressure on the Mount Pleasant goaltender, only Blake Davis and Owen Gatto were able to score in another one-goal loss. Greeley skates against Fox Lane at Brewster Ice Arena on Thursday at 7:55 p.m. and on Friday against Byram Hills.
