CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Horace Greeley ice hockey team moved through the first third of its season and into the 2012 with an overall 6-2-1 record, remaining unbeaten in conference play.
The Quakers earned victories over teams from Nyack/Tappan Zee, Newburgh, Ossining and Byram Hills, tied Hendrick Hudson and fell to a Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury Connecticut team over the past two weeks and head for the holiday break on an up note.
After a strong start at the Thanksgiving tournament, Greeley kept up its impressive play with a 6-1 victory against Nyack/Tappan Zee, followed by a 2-2 tie against Hendrick Hudson, despite outshooting the Sailors 47-17.
Greeley rebounded in its next match, outscoring Newburgh 3-0 and out shooting them 60-10. The Quakers then lost a close 4-3 battle with Bethel-Brookfield-Danbury after leading 2-0.
The Quakers returned to their aggressive skating style and overwhelmed Ossining 5-1 victory and followed with a 3-0 victory over Byram Hills.
Greeley has outscored its opponents 35-16 and out shot its opponents 324-171 over the first nine games as they approach a challenging part of the schedule that begins with Nyack/Tappan Zee on Wed., Jan. 4 at 5:45 p.m. at the Palisades Mall. The Quakers follow by hosting Pearl River at Brewster Ice Arena on Friday Jan. 6 at 7:10 p.m. and a date with Rye on Wed., Jan. 11 at 7:45 p.m. at Rye Playland.
