CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- Despite losing eight players from a strong 12-4-2 team last spring, the Horace Greeley High girls lacrosse team is looking forward to another solid season.

For the Quakers, it all starts with their senior captains - All-Section midfielder Anna Waterhouse, and All-League senior midfielders Bernie Grant and Emma Lowrey.

"Our three captains are our leaders," seventh-year coach Annamarie Marasco said after the team beat Carmel Wednesday in the rain to open its season. "They all have three to four years of experience."

Marasco believes the new power league will be a challenge for the team this spring.

"We're in the power league, with Somers, Yorktown, John Jay. ... Every game will be a challenge, every game will be against a strong opponent. We want to make our presence known and build from last year," Marasco said.

Greeley lost to Nyack in the semifinals last spring to end its season.
