Greeley Football Set To Open Season In Transition

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Horace Greeley High School football team opens its season at Brewster High School on Friday at 7 p.m. and all eyes will be on new head coach Tim Sullivan.

Sullivan took over two months ago after longtime coach Bill Tribou officially resigned. Tribou was a fixture at Greeley and Sullivan knows he has stepped into the spotlight.

“It’s big shoes to fill. He’s a legend. He’s one of the best high school football coaches around.” Sullivan, an assisant coach for almost two decades, said after a scrimmage at Ossining High School in late August. “But he’s taught me a tremendous amount. He’s done a lot for me personally, professionally, and I owe a lot to him. In my mind, I’m carrying on his work.”

On the field, the Quakers are coming off an extremely up-and-down season in which they finished 5-4. Transition could be the key word for Greeley this season as the players adjust to Sullivan’s coaching style.

But Greeley has a chance to start its season off on the right foot against a Brewster team that finished just 3-5 last season and at times struggled to score points. The Bears were shut out in their final two games last season.
