Townsend, the leading scorer in Horace Greeley history, is averaging 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds for Yale. He has started nine games.

Yale stunned the college basketball world earlier in the year with a 45-44 win over the University of Connecticut, the defending NCAA champions.

Yale plays on Tuesday at Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn.

Also in November, Townsend was named a prestigious Rhodes Scholar. Townsend has maintained a 4.0 grade point average through six semesters and has earned numerous other accolades for his work in the classroom, including being elected to the Yale Phi Beta Kappa society as a junior, one of only eight juniors at Yale selected. He is a molecular, cellular and developmental biology major.
