Chappaqua Tennis Team Wins Women's Usta Title

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- A team that plays at Chappaqua's Birchwood Swim & Tennis has won a United States Tennis Association (USTA) women's national title, the organization announced.

USTA said the team won the title at the USTA League Adult 18 & Over 2.5 National Championships, which were held in Indian Wells, Calif.

The Chappaqua team's victory came in a 2-1 championship-match win over a team from Diablo, Calif., USTA noted, which followed a 3-0 semifinals victory over a team from Covington, La.

Priors to the semifinals, the team won in round-robin play, USTA said.

Chappaqua represented the Eastern Section, USTA said, which noted that Eastern finished first out of four sections. 

USTA noted that the Northern California section finished second, the Pacific Northwest section placed third and the Southern section came in fourth.

USTA said that the Chappaqua team has co-captains Alice Coleman and Kelly Slomsky. The team's players include also include Jackie Leopold, Denise Stogsdill, Jennifer Sheehy and Stephanie Casper.

USTA says its Eastern section is based in White Plains.
