Chappaqua Swim Team Has Championship Summer

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Chappaqua Swim and Dive Team followed up a breakout 2011 summer season with an outstanding 2012 season.

The team went undefeated in the Northern Westchester Swim Conference Division I competition, finishing 5-0. Chappaqua then went on to a fourth-place finish at the Westchester County Swimming Association "Counties" Championships. It was the third consecutive year Chappaqua was the highest finisher among Northern Westchester Swim Conference teams.

Led by Katie Duncalf, Zoe Kerrich and the Weiner sisters – Isabella and Margaux, the girls finished second with 89 points, three points behind the top-scoring girls team, Lake Isle Country Club. Duncalf won the girls 17-and-under 100-yard butterfly for the second consecutive year, and Isabella Weiner was victorious in the girl’s 14-and-under 100-yard breaststroke.

Chappaqua finished its summer season by winning the Northern Westchester Swim Conference Division I swimming and diving titles. Once the final points were announced, Duncalf, who had already changed out her bathing suit, and her teammates celebrated.

“We all went into the kiddie pool and just splashed around,” said Duncalf, 17, a senior-to-be at Horace Greeley High School. “We were so happy and it was a great experience. We feel we deserved it and all of our hard work paid off.”

Duncalf said her teammates pushed her into the pool, but she didn’t mind going for another dip, despite being in shorts and a T-shirt.

Christopher Koster won the boys 18-and-under diving title, and Krista Piscantelli was the girls 13-and-under winner.

The following swimmers won Division I titles: Margaux and Isabella Weiner, Aileen King, Duncalf and Kerrich, Wyatt Yates, River Elms and Tommy St. Vincent. The relay teams of Stephen Pearce, Joe Weiner, Wyatt Yates and Brendan King; and Henry LePage, Nate Meyer, Adam Nack and Luka Cekic also won.

Isabella Weiner, St. Vincent and the relay teams went on to win conference championships.

Duncalf said Chappaqua’s success is a result of the depth on the team in all age groups. As a result, Chappaqua was able to score points.

Duncalf, a veteran of the Chappaqua team since she was 9, did not want to miss her final summer swim season even with her work schedule.

“The success we had was great, and winning is amazing, but it’s not about that,” said Duncalf, who is looking forward to her scholastic swim season. “It’s all about being with my teammates, the coaches, the families. We are such a close-knit team. That is what draws me back each summer.”
