CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. -- The Chappaqua Swim & Dive Team completed an undefeated regular season on Saturday with a 275-264 win over Willowbrook Swim & Tennis Club in a Northern Westchester Swim Conference Division I meet.
Chappaqua achieved a few firsts by finishing 5-0. It is Chappaqua’s first undefeated season in Division I since the team went 5-0 in Division II in 2003. This was also Chappaqua’s first victory over Willowbrook since it moved up to Division I in 2004.
River Elms continued his outstanding summer, winning three events for the fifth time this season. Elms won the 14-and-under breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. Stephen Pearce was also a triple winner, touching the wall first in the backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Katie Duncalf kept the record-breaking season going as she lowered her own standard in the girls’ 18-and-under breaststroke. Duncalf covered the 100 meters in 1:08.69 seconds, eclipsing her former mark of 1:08.94.
Tommy St. Vincent (18-and-under boys‘ butterfly and freestyle), John Koster (13-and-under boys’ diving and 12-and-under boys’ butterfly) and Luka Cekic (8-and-under boys’ butterfly and freestyle) were double winners for Chappaqua.
“I told the team that I was so proud of them and impressed with the strong performances they gave in the pool, especially given the fact that the meet took place during the heaviest training period of the summer season,” Chappaqua coach Dan Levy said. “They worked hard for the win and it was especially gratifying to see the older swimmers earn and enjoy the victory. It was the perfect ending to our first undefeated season since 2003.”
Chappaqua will embark Monday on the Westchester County Swimming & Diving Championships. Last year, Chappaqua finished second to champ, Greenburgh Swim Team.
