So far, the community college has been awarded nearly $117,000 in judgements agains 76 former students. The result is a comparatively low past due balance for tuition payments. WCC has a past due balance of $779,000, versus Rockland Community College, a school that doesn't pursue legal action against past-due students. RCC currently has a past-due balance of $3,395,000, LoHud.com reported.

WCC officials say the continued increase in litigation against delinquent students is because of a new software program that allows them to track payments, or lack thereof, better, LoHud.com said.
