Sports Boosters Raise $400,000 for Turf Field

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – The Greeley Sports Boosters were not quite able to gift wrap a turf field for Horace Greeley High School this holiday season. However the organization recently announced that it has raised over $400,000 in only three months.

The organization began its fund-raising campaign in September after receiving district support and is now a fifth-of-the-way toward its ultimate goal of $2 million, according to Boosters President Jim Nottingham.

All the funds have mostly been acquired through private donations. The Boosters also begin selling bricks for a walkway, which will run from the parking lot to the field. Donors have the option of inscribing their names on the bricks.

The group has also raised money through fund-raisers, merchandise sales, and a 50/50 raffle at this year’s homecoming, in which half of the donated pot went to the Boosters and the other half went to the winner.

Encouraged by the donations, Nottingham hopes to make the Boosters’ turf field dream a reality by September 2012.
