Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Wednesday that 53-year-old Carol Ressa of Lake Peekskill has been arraigned in Sleepy Hollow Village Court, where she was charged with felony counts of third-degree grand larceny, and grand larceny as a public corruption case.

According to Scarpino, between October 2011 and March of this year, Ressa “used her position as a public employee to steal thousands of dollars from the Tarrytown Union Free School District,” by stealing unauthorized checks drawn from a school district bank account that she made payable to herself.

Ressa is also accused of stealing multiple checks and money orders, which had been provided to the school district by middle school students and their families to pay for various student activities, including class trips, yearbooks and lunches.

Scarpino said that after stealing the various checks and money order payments, Ressa deposited the stolen district funds into her own bank account for her personal use.

In total, Ressa is accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the school district. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ressa’s bail was set at $5,000 bail or $25,000 bond. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. She is due back in court next week on June 19.
