The ceremony is an opportunity for students and faculty to gather to acknowledge and reflect on the gift they received from these individuals.
For many students in SHNS, the donated bodies are their first patients and their work in the anatomy lab is a turning point where concepts of science and medicine become real.
The educational experience is only made possible because people choose to donate their bodies to education.
SHNS Associate Dean and Professor Dr. Kathleen Golisz said: “The tangible and invaluable educational experience students obtain by working with these individuals who donated their bodies will stay with them for the rest of their careers.
"In many aspects, this is their first ‘patient,' or ‘silent’ mentor to the wonders of the human body. The Donor Memorial event is an opportunity for students and faculty to gather to acknowledge and reflect on the gift they received from these individuals or their family members," she said.
