McKay Recommends Greeley Principal for Promotion

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – At Tuesday night's board of education meeting, Chappaqua Central School District Superintendent Lyn McKay is scheduled to recommend the appointment of Andrew Selesnick as the district's next assistant superintendent for leadership development and human resources. Selesnick has served as principal of Horace Greeley High School for nine years.

In his new position, which would be effective July 1, 2012, Selesnick's responsibilities would include: labor management meetings, negotiations, APPR evaluation process for teachers and administrators, oversight of the human resources office, implementation of leadership professional development, and compliance with state and federal requirements.

“Andrew appreciates the balance we must strike between those traditional practices that have served us so well and the innovations necessary to prepare our students for an ever-changing future,” said McKay in a statement. “As co-president of the Chappaqua Administrators Association, he strives for positive, collaborative solutions to problems and is an incisive, skilled communicator. These skills are crucial to leadership development and staff evaluation.”

In total, Selesnick has spent 20 years at Horace Greeley High School. He has worked as an English teacher, department chair, assistant principal, and principal. Selesnick also holds a B.A. in English and M.A. in teaching from Tufts University. He lives in Pleasantville with his wife and two children.

If the board of education accepts McKay’s recommendation, the district will immediately begin searching for Selesnick's replacement at Greeley.
