Jhaveri attended the conference as the first sponsored student by the League of Women voters. Jhaveri was selected based on an essay, recommendations, school and community activities.

Jhaveri attended the conference in Albany from Sunday, May 18, to Wednesday, May 21, joining 59 other students from around the state.

He described his experience observing the legislature in action, his meetings with the staffs of Assemblyman David Buchwald and state Sen. Greg Ball, and gave an entertaining insight into the mechanics of passing (or not) state legislation.

"Students Inside Albany provided me with a great opportunity to see the political process firsthand and to meet interesting people from all around the state,” said Jhaveri. ”I would go again in a heartbeat."

In the fall, Jhaveri will be a senior and president of the HGHS Student Council.

The LWVBLNS plans to sponsor a high school student again to encourage young people in northeast Westchester to become more knowledgeable about their government.

“We were lucky to sponsor such a multitalented student as Dev Jhaveri,” said board member Barbara Dodds, SIA coordinator, “We urge local residents and school administrators to apply for next year.”
