Homecoming Comes To Somers’ Kennedy Catholic High

SOMERS, N.Y. – Homecoming Weekend at Somers’ Kennedy Catholic High School begins Thursday, designated Spirit Wear Day. Students can wear sports jerseys to school if they desire. Friday is Color Day -- freshmen wear white, sophomores blue, juniors red and seniors black.

The school day ends when everyone gathers in the gym to compete in the Homecoming Olympics, a series of games to determine which class reigns above all others.

Other sports events Thursday include:

4:15 p.m.: Girls' varsity volleyball vs Pawling High School

5:30 p.m.: Girls' swimming vs John Jay High School

5:45 p.m.: Girls' junior varsity volleyball vs Pawling High School

Other Friday events include:

4:15 p.m.: Girls' tennis vs Haldane High School

4:30 p.m.: Varsity field hockey vs Walter Panas High School

4:30 p.m.: Girls' varsity soccer vs Somers High School

6:00 p.m.: Junior varsity field hockey vs Walter Panas High School

At 11 a.m. Saturday, the boys' varsity soccer team will play against Beacon High School at home.

Kennedy’s homecoming varsity football game against Thornwood’s Westlake High School, kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Students are urged to wear navy blue in support of the Kennedy Gaels.

The “traveling school store” will be selling spirit wear and homecoming T-shirts will be on sale for $10. Hamburgers, hot dogs, snacks and a variety of beverages will be available at the concession stand and the halftime entertainment will feature a sports raffle and cheerleading.

Win or lose, the day culminates with the Homecoming Dance, from 7-10 p.m. in the high school. Students may arrive until 7:30 p.m. and must stay until 10 p.m. unless accompanied by a parent. The dance is casual dress and for Kennedy students only. Tickets are $10.
