Dozens of students at the elementary honored the national day with the Edgemont Elementary PTA helped motivate parents and students to join and a majority of parents did not drive their kids to school Wednesday, according to a press release from the school district.

"I spent 40 minutes at the school this morning and was amazed at the participation levels," said Town Supervisor Paul Feiner. "It is my hope that all schools within the town will support this terrific initiative next year."

The Greenburgh Police Department supervised the walkers to ensure their safety on their way to school, according to the release.
