The $30,000 grant will support the college’s Speech and Hearing Center.

The center is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences supporting the Communication Disorder/Speech Pathology Program.

The center offers evaluation and treatment services for people with communication disorders.

Among 60 clients seen by the center each week, 85 to 90 percent is school age children. The grant has enabled the Speech and Hearing Center to enhance and update equipment.

Updates include a video monitoring system so that faculty can observe and communicate with students as they work with clients in the clinic lab. Additionally, the college purchased a new state of the art audiometer for testing hearing, language environmental software and new apps and mini iPads to work with students and clients.

“The Center offers a unique learning experience for undergraduate and graduate students to obtain hands-on clinical experience in evaluations and therapeutic intervention," Mercy College President Tim Hall said. "This grant will help us better serve our clients and better teach our students.”
