Chappaqua Voters Pass Schools Budget

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Westchester County residents made their way to the polls on Tuesday to cast their votes on their school district’s annual budget and Board of Education trustees.

Bedford: The $129 million budget, increasing spending by 1.79 percent and increasing the tax levy by 1.92 percent, passed: 2,233-774

Chappaqua: Following a strong voter turnout, the budget was passed by a vote of 1,631 to 363. Jane Kimmel Shepardson (1,179 votes) and Victoria Bayard Tipp (795) earned election to the Board of Education. Both will serve two-year terms. 

Mount Pleasant: With 72.4 percent support, voters approved the schools budget by a vote of 808-308. Maria Jost and Laura Michalec Olszewski were named to the Board of Education.

Ossining: Incumbents Graig Galef and Frank Schnecker were joined by Lisa Rudley, Diana Lemon, and Katherin Crossling with four seats open. Galef and Schnecker and Rudley and Lemon are running as slates. The $125.7 million Ossining budget - representing an increase in spending of .36 percent and increases the tax levy by 2.1 percent easily passed voter approval.

Pleasantville: Voters easily passed the budget by a 603-112 margin. With more than 600 votes apiece, both Angela Vella and Louis Conte were named to the Board of Education. in total, 718 votes were cast, not including affidavit ballots.

Valhalla: The Valhalla Union Free School District’s $48,808,005 budget for the 2017-18 academic year passed with a favorable margin of 71 percent.

Yorktown: Both the proposed budget easily passed (568-125) and a special proposal to create a capital fund reserve fund also passed by a similar vote margin.
