Through a 45-minute hands-on classroom workshop, the students learned about atomic spectra – a unique “barcode” for each element, flame tests and other tools used in space science to understand how astronomers figure out the chemical makeup of stars millions of light years away.
Learning objectives of the program included describing how atomic spectra identifies elements, identifying colors of different elements and how atomic spectra are used.
