Chappaqua Student Nominated For West Point

Some of Westchester's best and brightest could soon be serving our country.

Sixteen students were nominated by Rep. Nita Lowey for admission into a service academy.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) honored the 16 Westchester students she nominated for admission to the nation's service academies- U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy.

“These exceptional young Americans are the future leaders of our great nation,” said Lowey. “Their outstanding applications reflect a deep commitment to public service and to improving their communities. It is an honor to work with our local veterans to identify and nominate such accomplished young people to represent the Lower Hudson Valley at our nation’s service academies.”

Six students from the Lower Hudson Valley have already been accepted.

The students are:

- Matthew Jabloner, a Chappaqua resident and senior at Horace Greeley High School, nominated to West Point

- Spencer Dunham, a Cortlandt Manor resident and senior at Fordham Preparatory School, nominated to the Naval Academy,  Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy

- Matthew Sillcocks, a Cortlandt Manor resident and senior at Walter Panas High School, nominated to Air Force Academy

- Noah Cohen, a Croton-on-Hudson resident, and senior at Iona Preparatory School nominated to the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy

- Lara Malaver, an Elmsford resident, and senior at Alexander Hamilton High School nominated to the Naval Academy

- Connor Gates, a Harrison resident and senior at Harrison High School, nominated to the Naval Academy

- Margot Butler, a Harrison resident and senior at Sacred Heart High School, nominated to the Naval Academy

- Alexander Piedra, a Jefferson Valley resident and senior at Lakeland High School, nominated to the Air Force Academy

- Mary Punzalan,  a Mohegan Lake resident and senior at The Ursuline School, nominated to West Point.

- Nicholas San Martin, an Ossining resident and senior at  Ossining High School, nominated to West Point.

- Yoo Shin Tanai, an Ossining resident and senior at Ossining High School, nominated to West Point

- Kelsey Baron, a Peekskill resident and senior at Kennedy Catholic High School, nominated to the Naval Academy

- Kevin Moore, a Shrub Oak resident and senior at Lakeland High School, nominated to West Point

- Paul Terminello, a White Plains resident and student at Marion Military Institute, nominated to the Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy

- Teresa DeVino, a Yorktown Heights resident and student at Virginia Tech, nominated to West Point and the United States Merchant Marine Academy

- Thomas Cole,  a Yorktown Heights resident and senior at Yorktown High School, nominated to West Point.
