CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Chappaqua Central School District Superintendent Lyn McKay and the Board of Education will present their first 2013-14 school budget Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. at Horace Greeley High School.

The Board of Education presented a budget outline in January , although it was emphasized that those numbers were simply a placeholder and honored all of the district's current contracts.

However, based on that preview , it was evident the district has its work cut out for it.

According to the budget outline, if the district's 2013-14 budget was set up to keep services the same as the 2012-13 budget, costs would exceed $117,300,000 -  representing a tax levy increase of 5.3 percent.

Such a budget would exceed the state-mandated tax levy cap that is the lesser of 2 percent or inflation.

“It is a worrisome situation. It is extremely important for us to not stand still and to continue to move forward,” McKay said in January. “It will take all of us working together.”

Some Board of Education members were curious about where cuts will be made.

“If we’re losing personnel, where will we lose it?” asked board member Karen Visser in January. "It seems like we're getting closer to making decisions that are going to be unpleasant."

Wednesday night’s proposal should begin to give more telling answers to such questions and concerns.
