Chappaqua Schools To Adopt Budget, Introduce Grafflin Principal

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. – Chappaqua Schools Superintendent Lyn McKay and the Board of Education are slated for an eventful school board meeting Wednesday night, with the adoption of the 2013-14 school year budget and the hiring of Jamie Edelman as the new Douglas G. Grafflin Elementary School principal both awaiting the board's approval.

Jamie Edelman was been chosen as the next principal of Douglas G. Grafflin Elementary School by Chappaqua Superintendent Lyn McKay and district officials last Tuesday.

The public meeting begins at 8:15 p.m. in the academic commons in Horace Greeley High School.

McKay announced her selection of Edelman last Tuesday in a letter sent to Chappaqua school district families.

"Jamie rose to the top of our thorough and wide-ranging search process. In the course of the last six weeks, she emerged from the more than 150 applicants for the position and met with a first-round interview committee representing all the stakeholder groups that comprise the Grafflin School community," said McKay.

If the Chappaqua Board of Education approves the district’s selection of Edelman, she would leave her current post at Putnam Valley Elementary School on June 30, making her new position at Grafflin official as of July 1. She has held her position at PVES for more than 12 years.

As for the planned adoption of next year’s school budget, the district is closing in on the end of a lengthy process. First proposed in February, the adoption of the budget would be the final step before a budget hearing on May 8 and a budget vote on May 21.

A community Q&A on the adopted budget will be held Thursday, May 9, at 7:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. in the Robert E. Bell Middle School.
