Chappaqua Schools Promote Inclusive Learning

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Beginning Monday, Dec. 5, Chappaqua schools will partake in the 11th annual National Inclusive School Week. Every December, schools and communities across the country celebrate NISW, which is intended to promote an inclusive learning environment that is not marginalizing to students with disabilities, ethnicity, or other differences.

The characteristics of an inclusive school include: ensuring that each and every student feels welcome and is learning, an understanding that every student is unique and therefore learns differently, the knowledge that all students learn better if teaching is tailored to their abilities and interest, collaboration with families, and high expectations for student success.

2011’s theme is Awareness to Action: Moving Forward. The theme hopes to inspire further progress and mindfulness on the part of Chappaqua schools in an effort to help all students achieve.
