This is only the third time the district, which accepted applications for the position until Monday, has had to search for a new principal in the school’s 50-year history.
The district began accepting applications in December, after current principal Michael Kirsch announced he would be retiring in September. Advertisements for the position were placed in several locations, including The New York Times.
The first round of interviews is slated for next week.
“We hope the right candidate will emerge from this group," said Assistant Superintendent Andrew Selesnick in last week’s Board of Education meeting.
Chappaqua Schools Superintendent Lyn McKay will give an update on where the district stands with its first round candidates in Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting at Horace Greeley High School at 8:15 p.m.
Selesnick said the first round of interviews will take place next week and the second round will occur the following week. The district hopes to settle on its finalists for the position by the third week of February.
Those finalists would move on to a more intimate interview process, which would include a tour through Grafflin’s school day led by McKay. Each finalist would then have the chance to introduce themselves to Grafflin faculty members.
If McKay and the school board do not believe they have the right candidate by that point, they said they will not hesitate to reboot the interview process from the start.
“It is extremely important we find someone we are excited to have here for the long haul,” said Selesnick.
