The levy, which represents the total amount of tax revenue that is part of the budget, would rise to a total of $104,849,225. Overall spending would rise by 1.77 percent ($2,028,900) to a total of $116,856,988.
The district's projected tax rates, which according to the district are how the levy is apportioned among the towns, would increase by 1.54 percent in New Castle and 1.34 percent in Mount Pleasant. The district attributes differences in the towns' equalization rates for why the tax rates are different.
The district attributes savings to non-personnel cuts of $190,000 and $650,000 due to job reductions as a result of falling enrollment.
The voting will be on May 20 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Horace Greeley High School's gym. It will also include elections for two school board seats, one library board seat and the proposed library budget.
