The Chappaqua Central School District held their final school board meeting of the school year Tuesday, honoring three departing members of the board, John Chambers, Gregg Bresner and Janet Benton.
Chambers served as the bridge between the former Chappaqua school superintendent, David Fleishman, and the deputy superintendent, Dr. Lyn McKay, people said during the meeting. Chambers was honored by his peers for the way he took on the challenges of school district in unstable financial times.
Gregg Bresner served on the board for three years while being a parent of two children in the Chappaqua school system. Bresner was commended for being an outspoken critic and supporter on the state of education in Westchester and throughout New York.
"It's been a privilege to serve this board for three years," Bresner said. "It's been such a wonderful experience from all different angles."
The final board member to be honored was the longest tenured, current board president Janet Benton. Her fellow board members honored her for her service, giving her numerous gifts to commemorate her tenure on the school board since 1999. Benton also received many thanks from the Chappaqua Parent Teachers Association as well as the Chappaqua School Foundation and former members Lisa Davis and Susan Habermann.
The Chappaqua PTA established a memorial scholarship fund in honor of Thomas Cardellicchio, assistant superintendent for Human Resources, who recently passed away in April. The PTA donated $100 into the scholarship fund for each exiting member of the board.
