Lamia, who is the district's assistant superintendent for human resources, will replace William Donohue, who is retiring.
The school board will formally appoint Lamia at its next meeting, which is on Tuesday.
The change in superintendents will be effective on July 1, which is the official start to the new school year.
“Bill Donohue has been an outstanding Superintendent, and we are grateful for his remarkable vision and contributions to the District,” Byram Hills school board President Brett Summers said in a statement, which was included in a press release announcing the transition.
Summers, the release states, added that Lamia's selection "followed the District’s practice of cultivating administrative leaders from within."
“What I love about this school community is that you can be the Superintendent and still remain connected to the kids,” Lamia said in an accompanying statement. “The student perspective drives everything that we’re doing, so knowing a significant number of students in the District and watching them enjoy their learning motivates my leadership.”
Lamia is a longtime employee of Byram Hills. Her provided biography noted that she started working for the district as an English teacher at H.C. Crittenden Middle School, and that she was the English Department's chairperson from 2003 to 2010.
Following a stint with her family in Brazil, the district notes that Lamia returned in 2012, when she became the district's assistant to the superintendent. Lamia then assumed her current post.
In the press release, Lamia also credits Donuhue and Crittenden Principal H. Evan Powderly with helping to shape her career.
Byram Hills PTSA President Abby Woodworth offered her support for Lamia in the release with her own statement.
"Jen Lamia is someone both parents and teachers highly respect,” she said. “Her history in Byram Hills and her leadership abilities in the education field make her the right choice for Superintendent. I cannot think of anyone better to lead Byram Hills into the future."
