WRBS News -- the school's version of morning announcements, which is delivered by students -- had the exclusive when Army Capt. and RBS parent Nicholas Minella presented Principal Amy Fishkin with an American flag that had been flown over Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan on May 30, during the Resolute Support Mission, in honor of Roaring Brook School.
Resolute Support Mission began on Jan. 1, as a follow-up mission to the International Security Assistance Force. Its mission is to provide training, advice and assistance for the Afghan security forces and institutions, as well as counter-terror and combat.
"On behalf of my family, I would like to present this flag as a thank you for everything that the school has done for us," Minella explained.
"As we celebrate Veterans Day, we are reminded that this is a day to honor and celebrate Americans like Capt. Minella, who represent patriotism, passion for our country and selflessness in serving for the common good," Fishkin said.
"The holiday is meant to remind nations, and us all, to seek peaceful relationships between one another."
