Thomas Wright, the estate's namesake, was a Westchester philanthropist and writer who owned property and operated a mill in the area during the American Revolution. During the revolution, Major Andre worked with the infamous American traitor, Benedict Arnold. Major Andre acted as a spy and was captured in Tarrytown, held in a barn at Thomas Wright’s mill in North Castle and was later hanged. A plaque displayed in Armonk shows Thomas Wright’s mill site buildings as well as the mill wheel.

Today, Wright's mills and revolutionary spies are long gone, replaced instead with stately homes in the exclusive estate. Two such homes, listed by Brian Milton of Houlihan Lawrence, feature easy living with a luxurious feel.

4 Terrace Circle sits on nearly three acres of the exclusive and bucolic Thomas Wright Estate. Built in 2005 and renovated six years later, the home includes a professional grade gym, movie theater and a recreation room that opens to a covered slate patio. The impressive grounds include an in-ground pool and spa-like hot tub. One of the most impressive homes in the area, 4 Terrace Circle is listed for $5,250,000.

Another Thomas Wright Estate home sits at 20 Wrights Mill Road. Built in 2003, it features six bedrooms, six bathrooms and 7,900 sq. ft. of living space. The colonial features large, 10-foot ceilings and a master suite which includes a fireplace and a luxurious master bath. The three-acre property includes extensive patios, an enclosed vegetable garden and private yard. Just a 50-minute commute to New York City and minutes to downtown Armonk, 20 Wrights Mill sits in a great location.
