Senate, Congressional Primaries Come To New Castle

NEW CASTLE, N.Y. – New Castle voters will be taking to the polls Tuesday to decide which candidates will appear on the November ballot in both United States Senate and Congressional races.

Registered Republicans will be voting in the primary for the U.S. Senate and, depending on the district, the primary for U.S. Congress District 17. While most of New Castle is in District 17, a small section in the eastern part of the town is in District 18.

The Republican Senate primary features a race between Wendy Long, George Maragos and Bob Turner. The candidates are hoping to run against Democratic incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand.

The U.S. Congress District 17 primary pits Republicans Joseph E. Carvin against James C. Russell, who are looking to run against Democratic incumbent Nita Lowey.

In the US Congress District 18 primary, five Democratic candidates are looking to run against Republican incumbent Nan Hayworth. Matthew C. Alexander, Richard H. Becker, Duane Jackson, Sean Patrick Maloney and Thomas Wilson will be on the ballot.

The polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Voters can find their exact polling place on the Westchester County Board of Elections website by entering their address into the polling place locator.
